Beautiful edge maintenance tool😎

Excellent handy tool for maintenance of kitchen cutlery. Long broad surface is also excellent for literally “truing up” edges on a wide variety of edges.

Solid and Sturdy

I have the original heavy stone holder and have used it for around a year. When you first see the stone the first thing you notice is how nice the fit and finish is. The first thing you notice when you pick it up is how heavy and solid feeling it is.

I don't have the Nanohone pond or sink bridge so I haven't used it with the button securing it in the middle. Using it with a metal sink bridge that has a smooth surface to rest stone holders on it has never once slipped on me. Even when wet, or covered in slurry/swarf from previous sharpening. It will migrate overtime and you may need to move it back. But it wont just slip on you if you apply too much pressure on it.

The height of the stage is great. Giving you great clearance if you have big hands or an awkward shaped tool/knife you're sharpening. Slapping it down on the counter and not having to worry about smashing your knuckles is very satisfying.

Even after leaving it covered in water and wet slurry for days it hasn't rusted. Nor has the finish worn away from being covered in abrasive. It's a great piece, and if you're buying the stones I would highly recommend the stone stage to go with them.

One and done stones

I have the whole line of stones aside from the 30k stone and have used them for a bit over a year at this point with various knives and other tools. How these stones fit on the stone stage is fantastic and I love how simple changing stones out is.

I have used/own Shapton glass, Naniwa Chocera, diamond plates, and various ceramic and resinoid soaking stones. If I had to just stick with one manufacturer/type it would be the Nanohone stones. Each stone brand has it's own feel, and sometimes I like to sharpen with something else just to mix it up. But I continually come back to these Nanohone stones compared to the others.

70 Micron Stone: This cuts soo fast. Compared to other stones in this coarseness range it feels like it dishes much slower than other stones. It will still dish, and you will still need to flatten it. But not as much as other stones I've used. After flattening with an NL-4 plate the surface feels almost like 80-120 grit sandpaper. The finish it leaves on the knife is very even and the scratches doesn't appear or feel very deep. When sharpening various implements it feels rough but isn't very grabby, it lets you know when you're getting good contact with the stone. Very pleasant to use and sharpen with. I have the 4 layered version of this coming in the mail.

35 Micron Stone: I haven't used this stone as much as some of the others. But very similar to the 70 micron stone, just a less aggressive scratch pattern and doesn't feel to cut as fast.

15 Micron stone: If I'm sharpening kitchen knives for other I generally will stop on this stone. It feels very smooth to the touch. I have I resinoid stone that I have permanently soaked which I would describe as "creamy" This stone feels similar but not to the same degree. It can give a feeling of the knife "skating" across the surface but there is always slight feedback. You can still get a very polished edge, and with how hard this stone is you can easily apex and deburr a knife with practice. It will remove the scratches from lower grit stones quickly.

6, 2, 1 micron stone: For feel all of these stones feel very similar. Not as "creamy" as the 15 micron stone, but still has good feedback for how hard they are. All of them leave good polished edges. This morning I used 6 micron stone to touch up a knife and was able to apex and debur using just the stone. I got it hanging paper towel sharp in about 5 minutes. The 2 micron stone works well for carving knives and other knives used for slicing. I have successfully sharpened straight razors on the 1 micron stone.

Other stones may excel in other areas but I don't think that there is another stone that is as well rounded as these stones and as low maintenance. Even if you don't have the Nanohone stone stage you can still place these in a different stone holder thanks to the attached aluminum bases. Can't recommend these enough.

Excellent

The NL-10 is a quick cutter and makes short work of whatever stone that I throw at it compared to other flattening plates. The extra clearance from the buttons makes it easy to clear out swarf when flattening. Even if you're not constantly running water over a stone. Any pencil marks I make on a stone stay on the stone until it is truly flat. My experience with other flattening diamond plates with low clearance has been that my pencil marks will wear away from the build up of abrasives/binder and I will need to remark a stone a few times before it is actually flat.

If you're flattening very high grit whetstones it leaves a smooth finish on the surface of the stone and allows you to maintain an even finish on whatever you're sharpening easily or not add more teeth to the edge from the rough stone surface. I also have the NL-4 and compared to that it is slightly slower but the surface of the stone is left much smoother.

The heft of the NL-10 makes it easier to flatten the stones and keep it level. Be careful not to drop it. It won't hurt the plate, but it might break whatever it lands on. That being said I haven't felt like it would slip out of my hands even when whet or covered in swarf/slurry.

It is expensive, but I won't need another plate for a very long time and can always send it back to get trued up if it ever goes out of level with my level of usage. I'm very happy with my purchase and would buy it again if needed.

Great!

These Nano Truers are a great little piece to add to any sharpening kit. I highly recommend them for maintenance or basic tune up sharpening.
